Green Wood Coalition

905-885-8700

Green Wood Coalition is a unique response to poverty that grew from a community dinner at a run-down motel in 2006, to an effective outreach program among Port Hope's most vulnerable population. The efforts of our Community Outreach Worker, supported by over 100 volunteers, seek to remove barriers to accessing housing, income support, healthcare, and food supply. The weekly meal now serving 70 plus, is essential to building trust with individuals who face daily struggles. Each week 10-12 individuals take advantage of an outreach Nurse Practitioner's care, 20 people are receiving foot care each month. We provide supports for more than 40 people in transitional housing at the Tower Hotel and the Ganaraska Hotel. A weekly expressive arts program involves 20 participants, and 10-20 people make use of our community garden. This roster of low-cost services has proven to be effective in reducing and preventing homelessness
