The meaning of 'Tsilhqot'in' is the People of the Blue Water. 'Tsilh' means blue, 'qo' means water and 't'in' means people. The Xeni Gwet'in First Nations is one of the six Tsilhqot'in communities that form the Tsilhqot'in Nation. The Xeni Gwet'in strives to achieve self-governance individually as a community and as a Nation. The people endeavor to maintain the beauty and quality of the land and air that surround them.Xeni is in the heart of British Columbia - the Nemiah Valley. The Nemiah Valley is one of the most beautiful areas within the Cariboo Chilcotin. The land is virtually 'un-touched.' The community operates mainly on generators and only was connected to a telephone system in 2009.Snowcapped mountains, rivers, streams, creeks and many exceptional lakes surround Nemiah Valley. The lakes are long and vast; there are three six-mile long lakes and one fifty-mile long lake. There are two rivers in the territory, the Taseko River and the Chilko River. The Chilko River is marked by a well known landmark, 'Henry's Crossing'.
